Roland, Jake, Eddie and Susannah arrive in Calla Bryn Sturgis. Each generation or so Wolves raid the town taking one from each set of twin children. The stolen children were returned some time later 'Roont', unable to do more than basic tasks. Roland and the group listen to stories of the townspeople, including the local priest, Donald 'Pere' Callahan - a man from Eddie Dean, Susannah Dean and Jake Chamber's world!
