Description
This is a list of novels and novella's which have never appeared in print. They are often written, but remain incomplete. Some have been incorporated into other stories, while others have been lost or abandoned for various reasons.Where possible I have included as much information about the work, but as you can imagine, information on these stories is extremely hard to come by.

The Aftermath
Description
Begun when King was just 16 (1963), this unpublished 76 page, 50,000 word manuscript describes life after a nuclear war. Written at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and at the same time he was beginning "Getting it on" (Later to become Rage), Armageddon was 14 August 1967, and people are intent on survival, and little else,Larry Talman tries to destroy the law and order organisation called the Sun Corps and their evil computer DRAC (Digital Relay Analogue Computer) because they are the front for spies from the planet Deneb IV that are planning on taking over the Earth. Before they take over, they have to kill all the Psychic Espers.
Larry falls in love with Reina, the DRAC programmer for the Sun Corps, but fails to persuade her to see his view, and ends up destroying the DRAC with a small explosive, killing Reina in the process. Larry and Ian escape, but only to find that they now face a monster, sent to kill humans in preparation for aliens to settle on Earth.
An unusual tale that shows much of Kings early writing ability.

Blaze
Description
Written at the same time as 'Salems Lot, and finished on the 15th of February 1973, this 173 page novel (and it's partially complete rewrite of 106 pages) is a melodrama about a huge, almost retarded criminal who kidnaps a baby and plans to ransom it back to the wealthy parents, but falls in love with the child instead.Fleeing from the authorities, Blaze runs across a frozen lake, but quite predictably, is shot and killed, and the child is returned to it's parents. Although weak in parts, the basic story is strong, and the rewrite apparently fixes a few of the basic errors in the initial draft.
The book is dedicated to Kings mother, who died of cancer later in 1973.
The book was updated and partly rewritten and released to the public as Blaze (Thanks Steve!!!)

Sword in the Darkness
Description
This is the longest of King's unpublished works, running in at around 485 pages (150,000 words), and was finished on the 30th of April 1970, but subsequently rejected by 12 publishers. It is about a race riot in a large American city. Although the novel is supposed to be about the riot, it is about life in high school, with the riot taking place only in the last 80 pages of the book.Arnie's life is torn apart when his pregnant sister commits suicide, and his mother dies of a brain tumour. He eventually seeks a relationship with the saucy Kit Longtin after being rejected by Janet Cross. Marcus Slade, a black activist lawyer arrives in town, and after an incident at Harding High School where he is speaking, the riot erupts, and the town burns!
Fuelled by gangs like the Dock Street Socializers, the Markham Avenue Chieftains, and the Turner Street Trades, the riot shows the evil side of human nature.
This manuscript is now placed in the special collections archive in the University of Maine at Orono, and access is only by written permission of Stephen King himself.
