Description: The
story of a teenage girl with telekinetic powers. Carrie White was an
outcast, who is pushed beyond human limits when she is cruelly taunted
in front of her Prom, and she unleashed her frightening power upon the
small New England town of Chamberlain in 1979.
Leaving the school and town
looking like a warzone, Carrie turns her power on the only person she
truly loves and hates - her fanatically religious mother, with
devastating results.
This is the earliest of King's
published novels, and the one that rocketed him to stardom. Looking
back on his early works now, it can be plainly seen that King has
matured and developed as a writer in many ways, but his early work is
still an enjoyment to read, and has a certain style that exists in
King's modern work still. Receiving a huge $2,500 advance for this
book, King thought he was lucky, but only a short while later the
paperback rights were sold for a whopping $400,000, and King was to get
Half!
