Like all movies, there are some subtle shots (And some not so
subtle) that contain visual and audible errors in King's movies.
Although not all the movies were not directed by him, and hence
the errors are not strictly King's at all, they are based on his works, so I have chosen to include them
here.
Apt Pupil
- Todd is wearing different shoes while driving to Dussander's house than when
he actually arrives.
- You can see the camera track while Todd is walking down the hall to give
Dussander the costume.
- Dussander walks downstairs wearing his uniform. As he approaches Todd, his
hat magically switches hands between the shots.
Carrie
- The opening credits (of SOME versions of the movie) show Steven King instead
of Stephen King
- During the roll call by Miss Collins, the girl in a white coat and red bag
(Katie?) is not on the seats. In the next shot she is sitting next to Sue, in the front row.
- When Miss Collins is questioning Sue and Tommy in her office, Tommy is initially
sitting some distance from Sue on the bench. In subsequent shots he is closer to her, although he never
moves. When he starts talking he is back to his original position.
- Norma has her hair styled at the salon in preparation for the prom. After
this we see her in braids setting up for the prom.
- In many signs the prom is from 9 - 1, but on at least one poster it says
9-1pm, not 9pm-1am!!!
- Sue Snell asks the time during dinner, and is told that it is 8pm. Shortly
before and after this scene there are shots that indicate that the prom has started, even though it is
not due to start until 9pm.
- In the USA, 8pm on May 25th it would still be light, but it is full dark
outside during the above scene.
- As the car driven by Billy Nolan crashes, a wheel falls off and bounces down
the road. All the wheels are on the car and at that point there is no chance that it is the spare tyre.
- The nightlight of Mary and Jesus is broken when Carrie smashes her mirror.
Later you see the statue intact again.
Cats Eye
- When Morrison's cigarettes are hit on the table, they scatter, but in the
next shot they are close together again.
- This is not so much as a film error, but a practical one: For something line
the grating to pass an electrical current to a persons body in a manner that would give an electric shock
there have to be 2 terminals a short distance apart, with some sort of insulator between them. The grating
in the room appears to be a solid metal grate, and thus would NOT give the effect shown.
- Also about the room above - the sparks do not come from the contact points
as would be expected (I suppose the actors prefer it this way!)
- When Morrison hits the man in the cupboard with the umbrella, the umbrella
is open, but the next morning it is closed, with the little strap clipped around it.
- When the girls mother shakes the trolls bell it sounds quite clear, but since
it is between her fingers it SHOULD sound dull.
- The fan in the little girls room seems to go at different speeds in different
shots.
- As Norris is scared by Kressner, Norris almost loses his balance and flails
his arms. At this point you can see a hook on his shirt.
- The last story takes place in Wilmington, North Carolina but all the vehicle
license plates are for Connecticut.
Children
Of The Corn
- When Burt's car hits the boy, you can see skid marks in FRONT of it. Obviously
that took more than one take.
- The Boy above is rolled onto his back by Burt, but in subsequent shots he
is on his stomach again.
- Burt stops his car at the crossroads. You can see the reflection of the
film crew on the side of the car
Christine
- Christine supposedly fixed herself, yet was already smashed before being
driven over by the caterpillar in Darnells.
- The grill on Christine is chrome, but when run over by the caterpillar you
can clearly see the section where the numberplate is, is red
- The Camaro that Christine drags backwards at the gas station can be seen
to have no engine.
- When Christine 'throws' the small white car in Darnells, you can see the
auxiliary wheels below the car, and the main wheels off the ground.
- There are many differences between "Christine" and a genuine 1958
Plymouth Fury, probably due to the fact that there were only ever 2000 made (none were red). They have
been collector's items since then, with owners understandably reluctant to involve their cars in a film
that required extensive damage.
- When Christine backs out of the office and hits the pole, the "PLYMOUTH" letters
are missing from the trunk door. In the next shot they are back
- Just before Darnell is killed, you can see the camera reflected in the office
window
Creepshow
- In the beginning, just before the little boy gets slapped by his father,
the red mark is already there
- Fathers Day is in June, and the show indicates that by 7pm it is completely
dark outside. By this time in June it wouldn't be completely dark outside until much later in the evening.
- The sand on Harry's faces disappears between shots as Richard buries him
Cujo
- During the first night that Cujo has the woman and child trapped in the
car, Cujo becomes enraged by the ringing phone and crashes through the window to attack it. When the
phone ceases ringing, Cujo remains in the window, and you can see the trainer's hand come up and pull
the dog down from the window.
Dark Half, The
- When Thad and his wife are talking about killing off George Stark over dinner,
her glass of soda has bubbles, then they disappear, then magically return
Dead Zone, The
- When Johnny drops his girlfriend off, the drivers side window is down, but
when he gets into the car, a flash can be seen from the window, indicating it is actually UP.
- When John wakes up from his coma his mothers hat has some netting which changes
in some of the shots - mainly noticeable with the spike of net on the side of the hat (Fairly subtle,
but noticeable).
Dolores Claiborne
- Phone shows the area code 902 (filming location Nova Scotia), not that of
Maine.
- A scene shows Dolores driving the night before a total solar eclipse. The
scene shows a full moon, which is impossible since a full moon cannot occur less than 14 days before
a total solar eclipse.
- When Selena telephones Peter, the cuffs on his sleeve alternate between being
open and being fastened.
- When Vera Donovan falls down the stairs, 3 rails were broken, but the position
of one is different when seen from the top of the stairs when compared to the shot at the bottom.
- This is 'sort of' an error: When Dolores goes back to her house there is
a broken window, but she removes a lot of glass from the outside of the window - normally the bulk of
the glass is on the opposite side to the force which smashes it. In this case, the glass should be on
the inside.
- When Dolores smashes the broken window on her house you can see it break
in one shot, but the next shot from a distance, the windows breaks in a different pattern.
Dreamcatcher
- When Henry shoots his diploma, the bullet goes through the glass and the
diploma directly below the word "University". A close up shows the bullet hole is about one inch below
Henry's name.
- A crew member standing on a ladder reflected in the driver's side window
of Henry's truck as he leaves the general store just before the snowstorm.
- When the SUV flips, the headlights alternate between on and off between
shots
- When Beaver and Jonesy are following the trail of blood, Beaver's shirt
is wet/dry between shots.
Firestarter
- When Andy McGee picks up the phone in the Airport, he puts it on his shoulder,
but in the next shot, it is not there at all.
- When the postal worker gets the mail, puts it in a bag and throws it over
the seat into the back. But when the postal worker gets killed the Shop people take the bag that is sitting
on the front seat. I know that he could have stopped again after picking up the mail, but it still looks
like an error to me. (Thanks to Clownz9 for this error)
- When Charlie starts the woodchips smoking, you can see the smoke coming
up from UNDER the table.
- When the stable catches on fire, you can clearly see the fire accelerant.
It is a shiny liquid that has obviously been painted on the tops of the stable doors and the fire simply
follows it along.
Graveyard Shift
- Right at the start the machine sliced apart one of the workers, leaving nothing
but his boots. Now the problem is that the machine was STILL running, but it did not slice up his shoes.
If it has enough power to slice the rest of the body into unidentifiable slop, then it would have done
the same to the shoes!
- This is a bit subjective, but I think the girls small red car gets cleaner
on the first drive into town.
- When Carmichael has his arm ripped off, the entire wall he hits moves. It
is wood, but a bit too much moves for my liking.
The Green Mile
- When Wild Bill has the chain around Dean's neck, the blood on his lip and
chin disappears and reappears between shots.
- The film is set in 1935 but Eduard Delacroix is reading a November 1937 issue
of "Weird Tales".
- During the execution of Eduard Delacroix, in the shot where Brutal is seen
in front of the partition, you can see the lights of the generator just above the top and they are all
lit. In the next scene lights are initially out and are illuminated on the "Roll on one" command
given by Percy.
- Eduard Delacroix is executed at 10:00 according to the clock in the chamber,
but when the warden yells for people to be calm, the same clock shows the time as shortly before 7:00.
It
- Just before Georgie gets killed by Pennywise, he runs down a rainy street,
but have a close look at the driveways he passes - some of them are dry!
- The old Eddie lives in Garden City, NY, but the station that he catches the
train at doesn't look like any station on Long Island or in New York City.
- When the young Ben gets picked on by Henry Bowers in Class, Henry is told
to stay in after school for one Hour for the next week. That afternoon, straight after school, Henry
and his friends try to cut Ben. Henry should have been in detention. (Thanks to Mike Meier for the error
correction)
- When Ben sees his father on the water, the balloons are the source of an
error. The strings are twisted for the first 2 shots, then untwisted for the final shot. Also there appears
as though there are less balloons in the final shot (5 or 6, not the 7 that you can see in the first
shot).
- Bev's father tears up the card from Ben 3 times (You can hear 3 rips), but
when he throws it on the floor, there are more than 8 pieces of card (all there could be if he ripped
it 3 times).
- When Eddie gets 'attacked' by the school showers, you see the hot taps turn
on, and the cold turn off. There is no steam from all this hot water!
- When the adult Bill and Mike are about to put the cards on the spokes of
Silver, Bill drops the cards. In the next shot, the cards BELOW the two upturned Ace of Spades change
position.
- When the adult Ben helps the young boy in the barrens, he ties the handkerchief
around the boys knee. The boys jeans are level with the top of the handkerchief , but when he walks away
in the next shot there is a gap between them.
- When Ben comes into town and sees Pennywise from the cab, in the next shot
the balloon arrangement changes.
- When Audra and her agent speak, the lamp in the background is about 18 inches
from the edge of the table. In the next shot when she is on the phone, it is just 2-3 inches from the
edge.
- When the group open the fridge in the library the cans on the fridge door
change in just about each shot from there on. Initially one falls, but is uprited, and the group of 3
move along from the inner edge of the door to about 3 inches from the inner edge.
- When the adult Beverly shoots at It with the earring, the slingshot shoots,
then after a slight delay the earring starts to fly, as does the earring when she shoots as a child!
Langoliers, The
- When the plane leaves Bangor, the captain raises the landing gear. In a subsequent
shot, they are down again
- The distance from the plane to the terminal decreases for one shot.
- Laurel claims that Los Angeles is deserted, yet cars can be seen moving.
- Attempting to steer an airplane moving along the ground at more than 100
knots will cause the landing gear to be destroyed.
Maximum Overdrive
- The image of the earth shown at the beginning of the movie is reversed.
Misery
- At the start when Paul is driving, the closeups show snow on the screen,
but is the distant shots there is no snow buildup on the screen.
- Orientation of typewriter changes after Annie first brings it in.
- The soup changes from red to orange when Annie throws it on Paul.
- Bottle of whiteout is there in the distant shot when Annie first brings the
paper in, but in the closeup it has disappeared.
- When Paul and Annie smudge the word on the paper, Pauls smudge changes shape
when Annie smudges it.
- When Paul sees the phone it sits on a white lace cloth some distance from
the edge of the table. When he gets closer the cloth is almost to the edge of the table.
- When the police officer arrives and Paul is given the needle, Annie's hand
changes from 4 fingers around the needle to 2 in the very next shot, then back to 4.
- Can of charcoal lighter fluid changes position before Paul picks it up.
- The typewriter lands upside down after Paul hits Annie with it, yet appears
in the next shot right side up.
Night Flier, The
- At the start, the face wound suffered by the first victim would bleed a LOT
more than this one did (Enough to really obscure the face, make it really gruesome, and probably earn
the movie an R rating ;-)
- When 'Jimmy' is talking to Dees in the bar, the billiard balls on the table
behind Jimmy clearly show 3 in the first shot, 2 in the next, and then the 3 are back in the same place.
A bit later you can see when the missing third ball was hit out of shot. A bit of cut and paste going
on here?
- When the woman watches her husband get murdered by the night flier through
the glass window, he hits the window leaving a blood smear. In the next shot the blood smear is different,
and later when Dees goes into the room it is different again.
- The blood smear that Dees places on Claire Bowie's grave changes from the
time he removes his hand to the next shot. The later photograph is different yet again.
- When Dees wakes up from the nightmare in the hotel room, the overhead shot
shows the glass positioned 1/2 way in front of the bottle, but the next shot from the front shows them
not overlapping at all, so either the bottle or glass has been moved slightly.
- The "Stay Away" written in what appears to be blood on the window
of Dees motel room changes in basically every shot. In the first shot at the window, look at the "A" in
Stay. The horizontal line does not protrude from either sloping line by much. In the next shot through
the window the "A" is rather thinly painted on - the line is easy to see through, but in the
last shot again from Dee's side, the whole letter is dark, and now the horizontal line protrudes through
on the right hand side of the letter. The other letters change slightly, but I wont bore you with specific
details.
- When Dee's gets into the Night Fliers plane, blood drips onto his jeans,
and he wipes it off, leaving a smear, but later when he is taking photo's in the cafeteria, you can plainly
see that there is no blood on him at all.
- The FAA warning in the case at Wilmington airport has streaks of blood down
it, that are a lot heavier than the distant shot just before it. You will also note that there is no
blood on the bottom of the case in the distant shot, but there is quite a bit of blood at the bottom.
- In the shot as Dee's runs towards the toilet in Wilmington airport there
is no blood on his shirt, but when Dee's throws up in the sink there are quite a few blood spatters there.
- The picture of Dee's on the front of The Inside View has more blood on it
than when he actually died (Just as you would expect the Inside View to do though ;-)
Pet Sematary
- At the start of the first night Louis goes to see Jud, Jud's budweiser beer
bottle has the label on the neck showing from 2 different shots from nearly opposite sides.
- When the housekeeper hangs herself, her head is hanging down with her chin
on her chest. If the rope were actually around her neck, her head would be up and canted to the side.
- The color of flowers change when Louis kneels by his son's grave.
- When the house burns to the ground, there are at least two shots of the house
showing no damage.
- When Louis goes and buries Rachel he carries no shovel or pick. We know from
the earlier burial of Church that the ground is almost solid stone, and too hard to dig with your bare
hands, so how did he dig the grave?, If he used his hands, why were they not torn to shreads by the stony
ground, as we see his undamaged hands when he is playing cards waiting for Rachel to arrive? (Thanks
Phil Truman and Julie Dawson)
Rage, The: Carrie 2
- When the girl jumps off the building onto the car below, the broken window
blood and crack pattern changes slightly in the various shots.
- When Rachel is talking in the diner, her sleeve is up to her knuckles in some
shots, and back to wrist in others.
- An obvious error is that Ralph White dies before Carrie is born. We know
that Carrie and Sue were about the same age at school, and because Sue is a counsellor at Rachel's school,
she is older. This makes Rachel Carrie's younger sister, but how, since her father died before even her
older sister was born?.
Running Man, The
- At one stage, the video scoreboard shows footage that occurs later in the
film.
- A springboard can be seen launching Ben when Dynamo shoots at him with a
lightning bolt.
- The stain of Subzero's blood on Ben's gamesuit appears then disappears.
Shawshank Redemption
- Red catches the ball twice without throwing it back.
- Beer bottles did not have twist-off tops in 1949.
- In 1949 Federal Income Taxes were due on March 15th, not April 15th as they
are today.
- The "A" that Andy scratches on the wall changes in the flashback.
- Andy is said to crawl through a sewer of length 500-600 yards - "just
shy of half a mile." Half a mile is 880 yards. That's quite a bit 'shy'.
- Movie takes place over several decades, yet nobody appears to age.
- We are led to believe that Andy is wearing one of Warden Norton's suit's.
However, Andy is almost a foot taller than the warden, yet the suit seems to fit perfectly.
Shining, The (1980)
- Helicopter blades are visible at top of first long shot of the hotel.
- Mrs. Torrance's cigarette ash changes when she discusses Danny with the doctor.
- The amount of sandwich eaten by Danny changes at the beginning of the film.
- The positioning of Danny's hands and the ice cream bowl change when he and
Halloran are talking about Shining.
- Shadow of the helicopter in shot showing the approach to the hotel.
- A bug can be discerned crawling down the camera lens when Wendy is talking
to Tony in his bed.
- Wendy's hand changed when Jack is talking about his nightmare.
- Jack is dragged through the door to the food-storage room twice.
- The position of Danny's toy cars on the circled carpet in the hallway change
when the ball rolls towards him.
- When Wendy hits Jack with the baseball bat, it bends!
- Damage to the bathroom door changes quite drastically between when Jack cuts
through it with the axe and when he looks through.
- Between the time Jack says "What do you want me to do about it?" and "I'm
not being grouchy," a chair vanishes from against the wall behind him.
- When Wendy walks into the Lounge looking for Jack, there is not a bear skin
rug in front of the fireplace. When she gets to the top of the stairs and whacks Jack in the head, the
bear rug is there.
- Dick Hallorann opens the freezer door with his left hand and the door's handle
is on the right. When the scene switches to inside the freezer, he is opening the door with his right
hand and the door handle switches to the left. When they walk out of the freezer, they walk out of a
different door (they first go into a freezer that is next to the chef's office, when they exit, they
come out a door which is across from the office).
- When Halloran arrives, 2 whole panels are seen to be broken from the bathroom
door, but they were not like that earlier!
- There is no blood on the axe just before Jack dies
Shining, The (1997)
- In the scene where the Torrances are left in the hotel, one of the rails
on the Overlook's porch steps is missing (likely to allow a shot). It's back the next time the porch
appears.
- The boom mike visible, reflected in the Overlook's main doors, behind Watson.
Sleepwalkers
- The bullet hole in the back of Charles Brady's shirt disappears.
Stand, The
- Larry passes the same car three times in the Lincoln Tunnel.
- When Stu shoots Dietz in the Disease Control Center, we hear gunshots after
we see the wounds
- When Nick Andros meets Julie Lawry in the drugstore, he puts down the bottle
twice without picking it up in between.
- As Julie Lawry goes outside following Nick
Andros to meet Tom Cullen for the first time, a boom mike is seen in
the bottom right side of the screen for about a second or so.
- Nick's hat when he is fighting Ray Booth and his gang.
- The bread that Tom tries to feed Stu would have rotted after five months.
- Harold flies off the front of his motorbike long before the bike hits the
railing.
- When Trashcan Man blows up the Cheery Oil tanks in Powtanville, Indiana,
mountains (of which Indiana has none) are clearly seen in the background.
- The state of Nick's shirt after helping Mother Abagail into the truck seems
a little bit different.
- When Mother Abagail leaves, she writes a biblical reference on her note : "When
Pride cometh, then cometh shame..." and it's said that this was Proverbs 11, verse 3. Close, but
thanks to Lynsey, we now know that's Proverbs 11, verse 2.
- Toward the end of The Stand, when Stu takes the blue car, it has Arkansas
license plates on the front and back. In Arkansas, you are only issued one tag, and it goes on the back
of the car. License plates on the front are not required. Thanks for that find K Davis (It took a bit
of research to confirm though :-)
Stand By Me
- The Topps baseball card in Gordie's brother's room was not available until
after the film was set.
- In the treehouse, Chris' cigarette pack disappears from his sleeve.
- Teddy's hair changes in every shot after being dunked in the swamp.
- The amount of blueberries and sauce on Lardass Davey Hogan's face changes
just before he vomits.
- 1980s cars visible in the background of the junkyard.
- Aluminium cans are available in the general store. They were not available
when the film was set.
- The camera tripod can be seen in Teddy's glasses when Teddy and Chris are
arguing on the railroad tracks.
Tales from the Darkside:
The Movie
- The door is locked when Caroline is killed, but in the next shot the cat
is seen running down the hall.
- When the cat killed Caroline it scratched the back of her head in several
places, but the doctor said she died of natural causes - With all those scratches?!?!
- When the cat is seen coming out of the head in the final sequence, the head
collapses as it exits.
Thinner
- When Halleck hits the old woman in the car she hits the windscreen and leaves
no blood on it, but in the next shot there is blood all over it.
- Also when the woman lands on the ground and stops rolling, she appears to
be on her side, but in the shot back from the car she is on her back, with only her head to the side.
Trucks
- When Hope uses the mobile phone, it beeps when she has clearly pressed no
buttons.
- The army truck that crashes into the transformer seems to show white gloved
on the driver from the front view, but none from other views.
- Just after the above crash, a person in the truck stop calls friend
over to look at something through the window, the view cuts to show the view out the window, and THEN
the smoke appears from below the tree line - so what did he see before?
- The 'rabid tonka truck' (cute huh?) does not beep every time it reverses.
- While on the subject of the truck, when it hits the mailman, blood spurts
from a 'head wound' that is just out of camera shot below the gutter. It spurts once when the mailman
is hit, then his head moves to the side, and he is hit again, and the blood spurts from the same point!
(Rebound shot? - grin)
- Ok, a third one for the 'rabid tonka truck' (Hey, someone wanna market them
- I think it's cute ;-) Once again, when it hits the mailman, the blood splatters change. In one shot
it appears cleaner than a previous shot.
- The car with the hikers in it changes. In the shots after the rear window
is broken and prior to entering Lunar: the interior and exterior shots each show a different rear window
- quite plain to see.
- When the first army cleanup guy gets killed, the blood splatter on the window
gets too big too fast. It changes between one shot and the next.
- Oh dear, they really made a few mistakes while this guy died. The axe bends
when it hits him!
- OK, a third - the blood sprays from a place AWAY from the location of the
axe wound.
- There is no blood on the suit that killed the first army guy when he finishes
his first murder, but when he fronts the second army guy, he is splattered with a bit of blood.
- There is also no blood on the axe when the suit fronts the second army guy
- strange considering he just minced the bloke in the front seat with it!
- Second army guy - the axe also bends when it hits him. (At least it's consistent
;-)
- Second army guy - OK, he's getting axed in the back, but the axe does not even
puncture the suit when it hits it!
- When Logan cuts through the door, the shape of the hole changes in the views
from each side.
- When the woman smashes the front window of the truck with the axe after it
runs down her husband, you can clearly see the window is cracked, but in the next shot it is intact.
- When the 2 kids exit from the drain, the amount of smoke coming from the
truck exhaust changes from shot to shot. I know this is normal, but it's funny that distant shots show
a lot of smoke, but close shots of the kids heads show little smoke (Actors prefer it that way I suppose
;-) Also shots that do not show the exhaust, also do not have any smoke in the area!
- In the final scene that shows the helicopter, 2 shots appear to show a pilot
inside the helicopter, but there is not supposed to be.
