Slade Description:
Slade was an 8
installment, 6,500 word comic novella published in the Maine Campus.
Written from the start as a humorous
story, King includes many well-known people from the time into
characters of the book. Jack Slade is mourning the loss of
his love, Polly Peachtree, in a tragic
accident that saw a flaming balloon crash into the barn where she was
milking the cows. He enters a small
town where the woman owner of the Bar-T ranch, Sandra Dawson, is being
harassed by a local gunman and
his men. Slade
comes to the rescue, shooting his way through the men, often in quite
funny ways, until he faces the boss - Sam Columbine, who shoots Slade
in the back 3 times, but not before
he discovers that Sandra Dawson was really his lost love Polly.
Well we can not let the hero
die this easily, so it is lucky that Slade put
on his bullet proof underwear today! No joke! Anyway he discovers that
Polly/Sandra is glad that he was
shot, so he gets up, shoots Polly/Sandra, and Columbine, and rides into
the sunset on his trusty horse... Sounds a bit queer to me (Grin)...

mentioned Stephen King during the story. Characters: | Agnew, Fred (Hunchback) | The
